Philosophy
Whether you feel heard, respected, and included in your pregnancy and birthing experience will color your first steps as a new parent and I take joy in helping you and your family prepare to make this a real possibility.
Experience
I trained and worked as a doula for 4 years before beginning my training as a midwife through the National Midwifery Institute. I completed the bulk of my clinical training at a busy birth center in the Bay Area, and also worked with a number of homebirth midwives in the area. I have attended over 200 births as a midwife.
My Story
My birth journey began when I was quite young, though I didn’t know it at the time. As a very small child, my favorite book was Where Do Babies Come From, by Margaret Sheffield.
This book innocently and graphically explained conception, pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding. I was obsessed. Twenty years later my passion was reignited when I lived with a midwife. I started watching her movies, reading her books, and mining her for stories and information. I was hooked and inspired to dive into the world of birth work. I participated in a DONA doula training in 2007 and attended my first birth in the winter of 2010.
I am also a mother of 2 beautiful children, one of whom I gave birth to. I was lucky enough to be able to birth her at home and it is an experience that has informed my work as a midwife.
